Library Day in the Life - January 27, 2011

8:15 am           Arrive

I get to work for a quick run through new email, answer whatever is quick, then begin piling my things to take to the LiLI meeting.  The meeting is just downstairs in the our conference room.

8:30 am           Pre-meeting

I get my things downstairs, say hello to one of our field consultants who is in town for the meeting.  As we’re catching up, the other participants begin to arrive.  So, it’s coffee, hugs, news, and general greetings until the meeting begins.

9:00 am           LiLI Meeting

The meeting is a full day, until 4pm.  Our primary topics today are the results of the recent study of the LiLI Database program, a discussion about what Idaho libraries are doing so far to serve ebook needs of users, and general reports/updates from everyone at the table.

We have a good discussions throughout the day. It is an amazing group of people to work with. They all come from different kinds of libraries, geographic locations, sizes of libraries, and have varied backgrounds.  To get the perspective of such a diverse group is a huge help to me as the staff person coordinating statewide programs, but it’s also just a great educational experience every single time.

4:00 pm           Meeting ended

It takes about 15-20 minutes from the time the meeting ends to see people off, say goodbye, get more hugs, and get back up to my desk.

At my desk, I listen to a few voice mail messages, answer a couple emails (I’ve been monitoring during breaks of the meeting throughout the day), and pack up my things for the next day.  Friday I’ll be telecommuting.
